萩原朔太郎の第一詩集（復刻版）。1914年から17年にかけて発表の詩から56編を収録しています。朔太郎が敬愛していた師・北原白秋による序文、朔太郎の無二の友人であった室生犀星による跋文がそえられているのも本書の見どころ。近代人の孤独や不安をとらえ，近代詩に新鮮な情緒を導き入れた画期的詩集とされており、現在でもその詩集のタイトルおよび数々の詩は広く知られています。 装幀と挿画は田中恭吉によるもの。田中恭吉は当時流行していた肺結核により23歳という若さで亡くなっており、この『月に吠える』の発行も田中の死後のことでした。今や伝説的な存在となっている近代版画作品集『月映』を親友の恩地孝四郎・藤森静雄と共に刊行するなど、日本における創作版画の運動に大きく貢献した人物です。 "Tsuki ni hoeru (Howling at the Moon)" is a collection of poems written by Hagiwara Sakutarō. This book is the reprinted edition of the first edition. There are 56 poems published in 1914-17 in this book. Highlights of this book are the preface by Kitahara Hakushū who is a master of Hagiwara Sakutarō and the afterword by Murō Saisei who is a poet and a bestfriend of Hagiwara Sakutarō. "Tsuki ni hoeru (Howling at the Moon) " is a groundbreaking collection of poems, because Hagiwara Sakutarō’s works captured the loneliness and anxiety of modern people and brought fresh emotion to modern poetry. The title of this collection of poems and many works in this are still widely known today. The cover and pictures in this book are painted by Tanaka Kyōkichi. Tanaka Kyōkichi died at 23 years old from pulmonary tuberculosis. This book was published after his death. Tanaka Kyōkichi was a contributor to the creative printmaking movement in Japan, and a member of the magazine of modern prints “Tsukuhae” which is a legendary magazine now.
