三島由紀夫による長編小説「金閣寺」の単行本です。いわずとしれた三島の代表作。本作の題材は1950年（昭和25年）に実際に起きた「金閣寺放火事件」からとられています。 「金閣寺」は1956年（昭和31年）、文芸雑誌『新潮』に連載され、単行本は同年10月30日に新潮社より刊行されました。こちらはその新潮社版の重版版。装丁は日本画家・今野忠一によるものです。 『金閣寺』単行本刊行に際し、200部のみの限定版なども発行されており、そちらは大変高価に取引されています。こちらは通常版なので比較的お求めやすい価格です。 “Kinkakuji (The Temple of the Golden Pavilion)” is a novel written by Mishima Yukio. This novel is based on an actual incident “The burning of the golden pavilion of Kinkaku-ji in 1950”. The main character is a young Bddhist acolyte. He was happy at the possibility of perishing with the beautiful Kinkakuji during the war. But when the war was finished, that possibility was gone. The illusion of the beauty of Kinkakuji became an obstacle in his life. In revenge for the beauty of Kinkakuji and to monopolize it, he decided to torch the Kinkakuji. This novel was published in 1956, became a bestseller soon and won many awards.
